Blue Mars Opening The Throttle?

The latest and much anticipated Blue Mars release will be available (all things considered) within the next 24hours. Those looking at this platform with more than a passing interest will be hoping that this release will provide more than the eye candy (spectacular though that may be) that has been the attraction up until now.

Although I agree with the need for lots of whistles and bells and baubles etc I am of the opinion that it is much more important that it works. Quality over quantity. After all we are still in the Open Beta phase of this fledgling virtual world.
There are lots of rumours flying around about exactly what will be included in the new release and this could lead to expectancy being driven too high. Perhaps a schedule for each release is in order. One which sets out the main thrust of the updates. Perhaps Avatar Reality would consider this for future releases.

As for the rumours on this occasion, we have the introduction of two new cities to look forward to - Gridrock City and The Tomb of the First Emperor of China featuring The Terracotta Warriors.

Both are sure to generate huge interest particularly in view of the fact that Gridrock City will be the first City that was conceived and created by developers who joined Blue Mars without the advantage of pre beta testing. Also some of the Gridrock team (if not all) have crossed over from Second Life.
As for the Tomb of The First Emperor of China, well, this promises to be a breathtaking spectacular.

Within the release there is likely to be changes to the UI an hopefully these changes will include, removal of bubble chat (or at least user selectable), avatar identity (NAMES), additional avatar customisation and the ability to toggle some sounds. Full screen mode would also be a boon. It will be interesting to see what actually materialises.

One other big possibility for this release could be the implementation of the inworld currency The Blue Mars Dollar or $blu. With this addition things will really begin to take shape and those sitting on the sidelines and who have a commercial bent will begin to really take notice.

The next 24 hours, I feel, will see Blue Mars step onto the main virtual world stage and stake its claim as a "player". Yes there is still a huge distance to travel, but the rock has been almost been pushed to the top of the hill. There are many eyes on Avatar Reality's platform, some critical some positive, but all are waiting with great anticipation.

Good luck to AR, Gridrock City , VSE and all the Devs beavering away.
